Program Manager, Faculty Innovation Project Fellow

The UIA has significantly enhanced its impact on student success by welcoming two new institutions in 2023, bringing our total to 17 universities. Our ongoing projects are driving tangible improvements in student success and outcomes nationwide. Over the past decade, we have dedicated ourselves to refining our approach to fostering innovation, evident in our network collaboration and change accelerating in-person events.

The University Innovation Alliance (UIA) is the leading consortium of large public research universities working together to improve outcomes for all students across the socioeconomic spectrum, particularly low-income students, first-generation students, and students of color. The UIA is designed, organized, and led by our 17 member institutions’ presidents and chancellors. Together, we draw from every region in the country and span the spectrum of U.S. public research universities, from emergent institutions to land grant universities and state flagships.

The UIA Learning Innovation Faculty Fellows Project is a collective, grant-funded effort among UIA member institutions to engage faculty to identify the practices that help students - especially those from underrepresented backgrounds - succeed,  and to scale them across our network, starting with STEM gateway courses. This position would oversee this project across multiple campuses in our network.

This individual will be situated on the UIA’s Central Team, housed at Arizona State University. They will provide coordination and day-to-day management of project deliverables, communication with participating campuses, preparation of reports and deliverables to funding partners, and ensure accountability to grant milestones. 

The Learning Innovation Faculty Fellow reports to the Senior Director of Alliance Engagement works collaboratively with the UIA central team to develop and facilitate the Learning Innovation Faculty project’s activities, network engagement opportunities, measurement, and learning capture. This role is responsible for ensuring accountability to project milestones and progress in partnership with the UIA central team, member campuses, and funding partners.

Essential Duties

  • Works with faculty fellows and campus teams to support progress toward the learning innovations. 
  • Plan and execute project retreat for faculty fellows across UIA campuses 
  • Develops and oversees UIA Community of Practice designed to support campus momentum toward individual and collective initiative goals. 
  • Manages relationships with and services from consulting partners enlisted to provide technical and adaptive assistance based on emerging UIA member needs.
  • Oversees campus-level reporting on initiative progress and facilitates collective UIA progress reporting to project stakeholders.
  • Supports the development of new funding proposals for initiative resources.
  • Ensures financial accountability to grant commitments, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Oversees the development of a change framework and public playbook based on learning and promising practices emerging from the initiative. 
  • Works with the UIA team to identify next steps for broader scale and dissemination, leveraging UIA’s University Innovation Lab to make the most effective teaching and learning innovation practices available to any campus. 
  • Other duties as needed and assigned based on UIA workflow.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field AND five years administrative/coordination experience; OR, Master's degree in field appropriate to area of assignment AND three years administrative/coordination experience; OR Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

  • Evidence of a Doctoral degree in higher education or related field.
  • Experience developing strategies and workflow for executing complex projects and initiatives; ability to manage multiple complex tasks simultaneously. 
  • Experience fostering partnerships and developing understanding of needs, issues, and problems across organizations and stakeholder groups
  • Experience in planning and facilitating meetings and events.
  • Experience establishing and delivering on organizational priorities. 
  • Experience establishing and maintaining effective working relationships across a diversified population. 
  • Experience working effectively in an environment subject to changing priorities, sensitive/confidential information and short deadlines.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of project management principles, change management practices, and techniques needed for large, complex projects.
  • Experience with grant management skills, monitoring, and evaluation. 
  • Experience with critical thinking & problem-solving skills.
  • Evidence of effective communications skills effective with a broad, diverse audience. 
  • Experience in using technology to support high quality student success initiatives.
  • Experience in managing shifting internal expectations. 
  • Experience in prioritizing and managing large amounts of information relevant to the work.
  • Experience in designing training materials and presentations.
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships and establishing and facilitating work teams.
  • Experience in working independently.

Working Environment

  • This position is a member of the UIA Central Team based at Arizona State University, but structured as a remote/virtual employee.
  • Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate-controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, standing, walking. 
  • Visual acuity and manual dexterity associated with daily use of desktop computer; bending, stooping, reaching and lifting up to 20 pounds. 
  • Ability to clearly communicate verbally in English, read, write, see and hear to perform essential duties. 
  • Review of completed tasks; provides and reviews assigned work activities to team members for quality and achievement of set goals.
  • May require 25% Domestic travel for this position.

Salary Range

$48,960 - $80,000
