Four University Innovation Alliance Schools Recognized As Most Innovative By U.S. News & World Report

PORTLAND, OR., September 13, 2016–U.S. News and World Report today announced that four University Innovation Alliance member institutions are among the nation’s most innovative universities: Arizona State University (#1), Georgia State University (#4), Purdue University (#9), and The University of Texas at Austin (#14).

For the second year, U.S. News and World Report is recognizing institutions that are making improvements for students through innovative approaches to admissions and enrollment, academic advising, teaching, and campus life. These rankings highlight the important work taking place across higher education to redesign the college experience to ensure students graduate and succeed beyond college.

“We are thrilled that our campuses continue to be recognized for their innovation and leadership,” said Bridget Burns, UIA Executive Director. “This is the kind of ranking we wish we saw more of. As a country, we should applaud universities that are doing the hard work to implement practices and policies that have a demonstrable impact on student success.”

Last year, four UIA institutions were named to the 2015 list: Arizona State University, Georgia State University, Purdue University, and University of Central Florida.
Launched in 2014, the UIA is a consortium of 11 public research universities that have committed to graduate an additional 68,000 students in 10 years. As of March 2016, the UIA is on track to exceed those goals, and will help nearly an additional 100,000 mostly low-income students graduate college.

The UIA works through collaborative, cross-functional teams to test and scale effective innovations across their campuses. In just two years, members have put in place successful programs that leverage data analytics and academic advising to identify struggling students earlier on in their academic career, and put them on a path to success. This fall, the Alliance has launched one of the largest cross-campus studies to assess the impact of advising and analytics on student success.

The 11 members of the Alliance include:

  • Arizona State University
  • Ohio State University
  • Georgia State University
  • University of California, Riverside
  • Iowa State University
  • University of Central Florida
  • Michigan State University
  • University of Kansas
  • Oregon State University
  • University of Texas at Austin
  • Purdue University
