Fresh From the UIA (Low Income)

4 Lessons Learned From Our Black Student Success Initiative
The University Innovation Alliance reviews its Black Student Success Initiative (BSSI), a two-year study of the unique barriers faced by Black college students. The study surfaced four key points and established a framework for UIA member campuses to increase Black student success.
Low Income Graduates

Portland, Ore. – September 25, 2017 – College completion data released today by the University Innovation Alliance (UIA) shows that the number of low-income graduates has increased by 24.7 percent among participating universities over the past three years, marking significant progress toward the Alliance’s goal of graduating an additional 68,000 undergraduates by 2025.

PORTLAND, OR, September 21, 2015 – Today, the U.S. Department of Education announced that the University Innovation Alliance (UIA) and Georgia State University were selected as one of the winners in its First in the World competition to encourage innovation among institutions of higher education. The UIA has been awarded $8.9 million to conduct a four-year research study on its 11 member campuses to evaluate the effectiveness of advising in increasing retention, progression, and graduation rates for low-income and first-generation students.

Since the launch of the University Innovation Alliance in September 2014, we’ve been busy embarking on the first phase of our journey towards increasing graduation rates among low-income students. As part of our commitment to graduate 68,000 additional students by 2025,  UIA members will scale predictive analytics-based interventions that have been successful on three member campuses—Georgia State University, Arizona State University, and the University of Texas at Austin.
