Emily Mathias
Emily Mathias is a higher education scholar-practitioner whose work bridges institutional strategy, policy, and student-centered practice. With more than a decade of experience across student affairs, academic support, and statewide coalition leadership, she brings a collaborative and analytically rigorous approach to advancing institutional initiatives. Working at USC, Emily has served as an Assessment Associate for the Division of Student Affairs and Academic Support, Strategic Initiatives and Policy Liaison Intern, Assessment Manager for Campus Recreation, Coalition Coordinator for the Office of Substance Abuse Prevention and Education, Project Coordinator for the Ann Johnson Institute, and instructor for the Department of Philosophy.
Emily’s work is grounded in a commitment to translating complex policy into meaningful practice. She has contributed to campus-wide initiatives on free expression and student engagement, including the development of educational resources and training programs, and has coordinated cross-functional partnerships that advanced strategic priorities.
Additionally, as a doctoral candidate in Philosophy at the University of South Carolina, Emily’s dissertation examines institutional trust and public perception, informing her approach to leadership, governance, and community engagement. Her background as an instructor and mentor further reflects her dedication to cultivating inclusive, thoughtful, and dialogic environments. Across her work, she combines intellectual depth with practical leadership, bringing energy, clarity, and purpose to initiatives that strengthen institutions and improve student, faculty, and staff welfare.
Emily holds a BA from Albion College and an MA from Western Michigan University (both in Philosophy). When not on campus, Emily can be found hanging out with her husband and child or snuggled up with a good book and their three shih tzus.
