Adam Z. Duran-Leftin, Ph.D.

Dr. Duran-Leftin (he/él) is an innovative and dedicated higher education administrator with a passion for creating supportive and diverse learning-centered environments. With 15 years of full-time experience in higher education, Dr. Duran-Leftin has worked across the country in a variety of student affairs functional areas, including: Student Involvement, Residence Life, Academic Advising, Student Unions & Centers, Fraternity & Sorority Life, and Orientation/Transition Programs. Most recently, he served as the Associate Director for Student Connection & Community within ASU Student Services on the Downtown Phoenix Campus; in this role, he coordinated engagement efforts in partnership with the Downtown academic colleges and the Dean of Students Office. He also serves as a Faculty Associate teaching graduate-level higher education courses at Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College.

As a first-generation college graduate from Cincinnati, OH, Dr. Duran-Leftin earned his B.A. and M.A. in Communication from Northern Kentucky University and his Ph.D. in Higher Education from Miami University (OH). His dissertation examined how new student affairs professionals engage in sensemaking around free speech events on campus. He is married to Dr. Antonio Duran who serves as a tenured Associate Professor in Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College, and they reside in central Phoenix, AZ with their adorable 5-year-old Pembroke Welsh corgi. He is excited to join the ASU University College and UIA teams in support of projects and initiatives that help students persist and succeed.
