Norman W. Jones

Vice Provost and Dean for Undergraduate Education

Norman W. Jones serves as Vice Provost and Dean for Undergraduate Education and Professor of English at The Ohio State University. He earned his Ph.D. from UCLA and his B.A. from Yale. His scholarship explores intersections and tensions between the Bible and literature, focusing especially on literary representations of marginalized subjectivities in twentieth- and twenty-first-century American literature. His more recent books include an undergraduate textbook, The Bible and Literature: The Basics, and a scholarly monograph, Provincializing the Bible: Faulkner and Postsecular American Literature. He previously served as Dean and Director of Ohio State’s Mansfield campus and, prior to that, as Associate Dean of the Mansfield campus. He was a 2018-19 Academic Leadership Program Fellow in the Big Ten Academic Alliance, and he served on the University Innovation Alliance team for Ohio State from 2015-17.

In his current role, Jones leads the vision for challenging and transformative academic experiences for Ohio State undergraduates on six campuses. Responsible for guiding the development of undergraduate educational experiences and outcomes, he provides leadership to Academic Enrichment, Military and Veterans Services (ROTC), Student-Athlete Support Services Office, Undergraduate Education, and Transition and Academic Growth.
