Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education

My name is Nakeshia N. Williams, Ph.D. Since August 2023, Nakeshia has served as the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. Prior to transitioning to North Carolina A&T State University, Nakeshia was the Vice President for Student Success, Well-Being, and Belonging at Hollins University, a private, historically women’s serving, liberal arts university located in the southwestern region of Virginia. She is committed to positively impacting people’s lives by creating a high-quality educational environment that reflects a diverse, responsive, and inclusive climate led me to procure over $1.5 million dollars in state, federal, and corporate grants throughout my tenure in higher education. As a culturally responsive servant-leader, she has established and implemented best practices to enhance communication, and bridge build between and among different groups, and effectively designed a blueprint for diversifying hiring practices of employees, recruitment of diverse students, and implementation of educative programming anchored in restorative practices.

Nakeshia is a former Associate Professor and Elementary Education Program Coordinator at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. She has also worked as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor for over fifteen years. Nakeshia is also a former middle and high school language arts teacher as well as a former High School Assistant Principal. She earned her undergraduate degree in English Education and a graduate degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from South Carolina State University. Nakeshia earned her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction – Urban Education from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
