Vice President for Student Life

Brian F. Hamluk was appointed Vice President for Student Life at the University at Buffalo in June 2021 and currently leads the departments, units, programs, and services committed to advancing the university experience for UB’s 30,000+ students. Under his leadership, Student Life provides students with resources and support needed for academic success, personal growth, career development, leadership, community engagement, and health and wellness.

Prior to joining UB, Hamluk spent his previous five years as Associate Dean of Students and Director of Administration at the University of Pittsburgh, serving 33,000+ undergraduate and graduate students. He was a key member of the university’s Student Affairs leadership team and assumed a prominent role in the development of the division’s strategic goals and initiatives.

Before joining the University of Pittsburgh, Hamluk served for 15 years in numerous administrative roles at The George Washington University (GW), including Executive Director of Student and Academic Support Services and Senior Adviser to the Senior Vice President and Senior Provost of Student and Academic Support Services, where he oversaw the coordination of programs, resources, and services for 25,000+ students. During his time at GW, he also served as Associate Athletic Director, acting as Chief Operating Officer for the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, an NCAA Division I program of 27 sports.

Hamluk began his career at Syracuse University, serving in administrative roles in the Division of Student Affairs and with the men’s basketball program in the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.

Hamluk received a Doctor of Education in Higher Education Administration from The George Washington University, where he also earned an MTA in Sport Management and an MA in Education and Human Development. He also received an MS in Cultural Foundations of Education from Syracuse University and an MPPM in Public Policy and Management from the University of Pittsburgh. Hamluk received his BS in Physical and Health Education from St. Bonaventure University.
